Experience
My instructional experience started not in a classroom, but in a fitness facility. I began working as a personal trainer and strength coach over 7 years ago. I've worked with clients of all backgrounds, fitness levels, and goals. It was always my goal to educate my clients, while helping them to achieve their goals. As I advanced as a professional, and in my schooling, it became clear to me that teaching was what I wanted to do. My first academic experience as an instructor was while attending UNCW. I was appointed a Teaching Assistant position for Anatomy and Physiology I laboratory course. This experience only further solidified the notion that teaching was the profession that I desired. I graduated Cum Laude with Honors from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2016 with my B.S. degree in Exercise Science with a double minor in Biology and Neuroscience. In my time at UNCW, I was awarded internal grants for my original research, was a member of two National Honor Societies, and was named the Outstanding Graduate from my department. I also developed and led a student organization on campus and served on the committee board of other student organizations. I am currently pursuing my PhD in Exercise Physiology at Florida State University. My previous professional experience, coursework, leadership roles, and educational background have provided me with the necessary knowledge and qualifications to instruct Exercise Science, Anatomy and Physiology, and Biology courses. My instructional approach is integrative, multifaceted, and interactive. It is my desire to actively engage each student so they may develop as independent learners. My goal is to facilitate learning and provide the means for the student to find the answers to the questions posed as they become an active participant in their own learning. It is also my desire to instill skills that will earn a better grade in the classroom, of course, but that extend beyond the classroom. By taking this teaching approach, the student will be better suited for success in their current classes, as well as in their future coursework and endeavors.
